June 16 San Francisco, California to Winnemucca, Nevada.

We left our house and crossed the Golden Gate Bridge. Taking US
101 north to Novato, we then headed on CA 37 to Vallejo where we joined
I-80. We stopped in Sacramento to process our refund for the cancelled
California Zephyr at the Amtrak station at 4th and I Streets. It was hot like
Sacramento gets in June, but I must admit that I still consider Sacramento to
be a sort of home. Climbing up into the Sierra Nevada pine forests, we had
lunch at the Donner Summit picnic area. Nevada is barren compared to
Northern California, and so we had an uneventful trip to Winnemucca.
There is not much in Winnemucca except motels. Ours is the Holiday Motel
and it is quite satisfactory.
